I intially was going to be rediculous and stay in the house because I had a few braids in my hair for a “braid out”…. But that just doesn’t make any sense! So I made it WORK! Lol… Now, I think I can get the hang of this whole protective styling thing …

Taren, I look like Felicia from Friday when I put singles (twists/braids) in my hair! So I get where you’re coming from. The look you created is very cute!
It’s good to see you embracing your hair in many different ways.
Oh, I’ve been meaning to ask you, what do you use to keep your hair so black? I had my haired dyed blue black several months ago (I use to do it myself) and it turned out very black but now I’m seeing some brwn spots in the middle, so I guess she didn’t do that good of a job. I want to color again except I don’t want to use dye. I was considering henna and indigo, but seems like quite a task. Have you tried the indigo?
Protective styling is also very low maintenance as well. One less thing to do, especially if your super busy. Good for you. :}
Hey Taren! Just wanted to let you know that there’s a African Festival going in Downtown Brooklyn near the BAM school…. It supposed to be really nice…
Oh my gosh my sister in-law is a Virgo and you remind me so much of her nervous about stepping out of the box and worried about what others think. Your new look is really cute
have fun with your new looks. Toodles Stacia
Hey Taren, when are you going to start back up with the R&R?
I wore my hair in a bun through most of the last year and it went from shoulder length to near my hips with barely a split end. I initially bunned not to protect, but because I didn’t like a haircut I had gotten. I mistakenly discovered protective styling is great!! My hair grows nicely regardless, but I would have had to do lots more trimming. I also stay away from any heat most of the time.
It looks so cute! And the earrings are killer!
really good idea with the head band wrapping, i think ill try it today for the bbq:), its looks really nice on you girl, i understand how you feel , i been really hesitant about trying different things and usually they turn out great. enjoy your weekend
u could wear a knit/crochet/barret hat instead of twisting up a hooded band
Hay Taren I’ve been trying to find a hooded band. I live in Georgia. Where do you think I can get one? Is it possible to order it online from the store you get it from? Which issss? Lol.
hey taren maybe you could do some twist or braids and put them up in little bun styles to make them look more mature. You really dont have to wear them down all the time! And besides that would be a double protective style..lol…braids or twist in a updo or bun style! Doesnt get any better when it comes to protective styles!
Where do u purchase the hooded bands from?
Of course it’s a big deal! Yay!
It makes you like your face better don’t ya think? I started noticing that when i’d do protective style that I was like man i actually have a really pretty face lol. Talk about a confidence boost. I wear them all the time now. it’s everything good for my hair AND when i rock it out it gets all the fabulous awe and attention big hair deserves lol
“Such a freakin virgo its not even funny” LOL i can SOOOOOOOOOO relate LOL if your NOT a Virgo you just don’t understand lolol…we’re particular/can be critical/ analytical/precise…i can go on an on lol with certain things lol kudos for the protective style
Lool Taren,
You are just too cute and your video’s are a pleasure to watch.
I know it can be hard with the protective styling thing, goodness, before I could figure out how to rock a great twist in style, it took me centuries lol.
But I’m happy that you’re discovering a whole new aspect of your hair.
Once you get the hang of exploring with different styles It actually becomes fun!
P.S The braids with the scarf style is lovely.
I think we as black women need to consider material hair wraps as a means to protective styling more often than we do.
Thanks for this video. I feel that I look childish in braids, twists, etc…especially since I’m tranitioning. Using the hoodedband was a great idea. It’s an alternative that I’m gonna try. This is just another reason for me to order from Ricky’s
good for you!
I’m inspired! I don’t like wearing my braids or twists either (unless they are tiny which takes hours | not worth it for one week).
CAN I HAVE INFO ON THE WRAP? I WANT TO GET SOME IN DIFF COLORS TOO (WHEN I GET MONEY).
Yes you look glamorous! The earring are a great touch! Im singing for the vets this holiday, and Im gonna be a ” copycat” and do the same hairstyle and big earrings. Thanks! Lol
where do you get those hooded bands?
Your hair looks nice.
You look so cute with the hooded headband. I, too, am not a fan of protective styling, but you encourage me to try.
